Other amenities in La Carmela

March 5, 2010

Technical sessions for the duration of the convention will be held in the newly constructed convention hall.  La Carmela de Boracay’s owner, Iloilo-based businessman, Boy So put up the new convention center primarily to accommodate the forthcoming PHILLBO National Convention. While construction was underway, the members of the organizing committee had to regularly visit Boracay to make sure that the facility is completed in time for the convention.

Registration. Delegates whether pre-registered or not shall proceed to the covention lobby to get their kits, t-shirt and meal tickets.

Where to eat.  Meals will be served buffet style.  Considering the number  of delegates (we expect it to reach 1,500 by day one), meals wil be served in three (3) dining areas. The Luzon group will be served in the buffet dining area at the main building.  The Mindanao group will take their meals in the covered dining area outside of the convention hall, while the Visayas group will proceed to the function hall at the third floor. Meal tickets will color-coded in accordance with the assigned dining areas.

Need to cool off?  La Carmela is a  few steps away from the famous white sand beach.  So if  you’re feeling drowsy due to the summer heat, you can rush to the beach to cool off. If you deslike the possibility of getting sun-tanned, the oval-shaped pool right in front of the main entrance is a better alternative.

Locating your room. The main resort-hotel and the executive suites are connected with a hallway as well as a beautifully landscaped footwalk garden.  So you won’t have a hard time finding your assigned room.  To get to the upper floor, you could either run up the stairs or take the elevator.  Room accommodation is on a quadruple sharing.  Some may find the rooms a little bit skimpy for four (4) occupants. Anyway, you won’t get the most out of Boracay if you stay at your room most of the time.  Next post: How to make the most out of your stay in Boracay.

Getting to La Carmela from Caticlan

March 1, 2010

The province of Aklan’s “one entry, one exit” policy requires that all boats bound for Boracay shall dock at Cagban jetty port in Barangay Mano-manoc. That’s within the proximity of Station 3.   We’re setting up an assistance kiosk in the arrival area to help the delegates get their ride to La Carmela.  Delegates in group can rent a van or multi cab.  Individually, there are lots of tricycle to ride on in going to the venue.  Please refer to our previous advisories posted in this site for the corresponding fares.    The trip to La Carmela will take 5 to 15 minutes along narrow, winding and heavy traffic road.  By the way, vehicles don’t ply in the beach front.  The entry to La Carmela is by the backdoor.  Tomorrow’s post: A Glimpse of the Venue.

Convention Updates

February 28, 2010

It’s ten days till the PHILLBO Convention.  ALBO 6, the host chapter has already finalized the necessary arrangements including the rooming list of the delegates who have sent their confirmation - except the Program.  Secretary Rolando G. Andaya, Jr., the invited Keynote Speaker would definitely not be coming. He has in fact, tendered his resignation in view of the recent Supreme Court reversal about the status of appointive officials who have filed their candidacies for the May elections.

We were hoping that Sec. Andaya would be joining us on March 10th, not only to keynote the opening ceremony but also to celebrate his birthday with the local budget officers.  Guess, we can’t hit two birds with one stone!

Anyway, the convention must go on as scheduled.  For delegates who have not been to Boracay, the instructions and pictures below will serve as your helpful guide.

Caticlan, a barangay of the municipality of Malay is the point of entry to Boracay.  You should proceed to the jetty port, a modern facility bulit out of Aklan’s bond flotation. For instructions on how to get to Boracay, click on the flow chart below:

Considering the influx of tourists goint to Boracay, falling in-line to get through the three (3) windows outside the port area to pay your terminal fee (Php 50.00), environmental fee (Php 50.00), and boat ticket (Php 30.00 for fastcraft; Php 25.00 for motorized banca) - may take some time.   To make things easier for you, we’ve set up an assistance center manned by Aklan LBOs inside the port lobby.  Don’t hesitate to approach any of them.  Aklanons, by nature, are very hospitable.  A band (rondalla) composed of senior citizens of Malay will welcome you inside the port lobby with traditionally visayan music. Don’t forget to drop in a few tokens inside the box.

You should register and be counted as required by a municpal ordinance of Malay. Then proceed to the departure area for ticket inspection. We will try to arrange with the port management a special lane for PHILLBO delegates.  An assistance kiosk to help you board the boat for Boracay will be set up in the departure are. The trip to Boracay takes 5 by fastcraft or 15 minutes by motor banca.  To get to the fastcraft, you have to walk a 20 meters distance towards the RORO dock.  On the other hand, the motor banca is just a few steps away from the departure area.   Tomorrow’s post: Getting to La Carmela from the Cagban jetty port.
